Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of United States. She is both the first female vice-president as well as the highest-ranking female official of the United American. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. She was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be a senator in the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated healthcare reform, federal descholaring for cannabis, a path for undocumented immigrants to become citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
